Amore Italia 2 - Catching the Big One
Monday, March 05, 2007 Catching the Big One
February flew by and ended with a vacation / research trip to Key West, Florida.
I once again got to visit the chickens at one of my
favorite places there: Blue
Heaven, where I enjoyed two
scrumptious breakfasts of
lobster benedict, and one
parting night dinner. The gift shop accepted one of my prints of the restaurant on consignment. While
there, our group stayed just
a corner away at a super bed
and breakfast, Angelina's
Guesthouse, known for Janet's
delicious cinnamon buns each
morning along with mixed fruit, bagels and homemade
bread. I am looking forward to including Angelina's in
my next series of Key West
watercolors starting this week.
I am doing quite a few new
things that I haven't tried before, and one of these was
back country fishing on flat water. Almost There charters
offers a four hour experience and in less than five minutes after being shown how to fish, I was pulling in (with difficulty)
my first catch ever: an eighteen pound Cobia! Thanks
to Cap'n Rob, this one did
not get away!! We feasted on
it and some snapper and grouper that night at Turtle
Krall, home of the famed Monday and Friday turtle races and they fixed it for
our group of eight along with french fries and coleslaw. It tasted that much better knowing that I was one of the champion hunter and gatherers...Girls
rule!!!! We also discovered
Mangia Mangia, an Italian
restaurant, and enjoyed the
ambiance of Kelly's outdoor
courtyard. The weather was
definitely there where it was the warmest temp of anywhere in the U.S. It was
difficult to come back to
forty degrees again after
luxuriating at Duval Beach
Club and the Southernmost
House pool and cabana for
most of the short week.
Now I am preparing details
for the next fall trip to
Florence and the Cinque Terre
where I will seek out my next painting ideas. Back to
the drawing board after an
inspirational break.....
