Show time.......

Production is over now for a little while and the shows are about to start this month. I am content right now to have the opportunity to show in two new shows, both local; one in Hampton across the water as we say in Tidewater Virginia when
referring to the Peninsula,
and the other at our Town
Center in Virginia Beach.
(We are the only city I know of that did not have a recognizable town center so
we had to build one! We are
also touted as the world's
largest resort city.) If a
tourist, you will find out
quickly that you need a car
to get around Virginia Beach
unless you are staying on the oceanfront.
On a different note,(but still thinking about art shows), I would like to quote
a section of my website guru's newsletter with the
following question borrowed
from Southwest magazine:
SWA: Why should people consider buying art in the
first place (as opposed to
dime-a-dozen decorative prints that can fill walls
of a home)?
Clint answered: "Original art
is uplifting; it's good for the soul. It's a beautiful
language through which humanity can communicate. When you buy a piece of original art, there is a
special connection with the
artist that you don't have when you buy a decorative print. Your purchase helps support that artist and allows the artist to continue to create. You are
directly supporting the beautiful language called art. In addition, when you
own an original artwork, you have something that is totally unique to your collection; it makes a statement about YOU." Wow!
Thanks for saying it so eloquently for all of us
artists, Clint! Although as yet, I have yet to have a
traffic jam at my blog, I
wish at this time that more
potential collectors could
read that one question and its answer. Perhaps then they wouldn't feel that a
purchase of a painting should be any different from
that of a car or household
improvements such as granite
countertops, tiled baths, and
too-many-to-name home purchases at Home Depot! Think that doesn't cost money? Spring weather comes
around here and the first thing you see are people flocking to hardware and garden centers like bees to
honey. Wouldn't it be nice if
that kind of attitude in the
minds of consumers could be
applied at outdoor shows
about art??? OK, I'm stepping
off my artistic soapbox now
for a few days'break before
the next shows. I am always
excited to see my new babies'
framing.
